March Hare 12-car Rally
6 crews braved the roads of Fife and Kinross-shire in the March Hare.
It was intended for newbies and so the route and clues were (meant to be) fairly easy. The start was from Ralphs place, and as befits a professional host, he sent the crews on their way, reminding them to come back to the same place.......before closing time. The first couple of sections were achieved without mis-hap, but a wee mistook in the clue for section 3 caused a hiccup for some. Newcomers Sandy and Steven got a bit lost and got to the control too late, then phoned me and I tried to reroute them to a suitable point without great success.
Meanwhile TC4 to TC5 took crews to the foot of the Ochils and some "proper" roads. By this time one crew who shall remain nameless (Roy), had taken to decorating the roadside [You''re supposed to take two Stugeron tablets at scrutineering. Ed] ..... A couple of crews missed boards on this section although probably took the right route. TC5 was near Cleish and Malcolm Rally-photo.com MacTavish managed to get there after marshalling TC3, so proof of passage may yet appear.....
Section 6 took crews along to Ballingry. Dave Cranston was encouraging Stuart B to "keep moving at all costs" through the town, thus keeping away from his clients.... TC6 had a location shift which resulted in two boards showing briefly - got sorted out ok though and then back to Ralphs. Grub was to be had and was very welcome - Thanks Ralph! Results Richard/ 0 Disco Stuart M/Lock 0 Gowf Stuart B/Dave 1 Bee-Emm Chris/John 64 Dinky Toy Daihatsu Graeme/Roy 64 Scooby Sandy/Steven OTL Gowf So a tie overall - think everyone was happy enough apart from Roy who rolled into the final control saying "never navigating again"...... think he might be looking for revenge though Graeme! Chris reports that his car is about wide enough for the handout maps, but any re-folding of an OS map results in elbows in ears and lack of vision - mind you it has advantages as it fits in between speed bumps very nicely thank you!
Thanks to Raplh and Hazel, Graeme , Malcolm and Ian for marshalling.
Thanks too, to Ross Fernie for the use of the forecourt.
