Wilma Disables GMSC
We're back on line after being out of action for a few days. Our web site is hosted in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which was hit by Hurricane Wilma early in the morning of last Monday. The data centre took a direct hit and all power in the city was out.
The data centre does have back-up power supplies, but these are meant for short-term outages rather than an on-going supply failure. It would be like trying to run your house on the genny that you use for lighting in the service area.
We did set up an alternative host, but had some teething trouble. These were fixed by our new hosts pretty quickly, and gmsc.org.uk has now moved well away from hurricane and earthquake zones, to a new home near Chicago. The only possible source of disaster will be a grizzly bear chewing through the fibre optic cable!
So we're sorry for the outage - particularly in the run-up to the Kingdom Stages Rally - but we should be stable from now on
