Kingdom Stages 2008
We have a great event lined up, full 100 car entry, with the Rintoul Brothers, winners in 2006 and 2007 starting at number 1 and out to make it 3 in a row. They have to be favourites, and Johnny isn''t a crasher. But the Evo has been having a bit of a mid-life crisis lately, a broken suspension on Mull, failed wheel bearing that let a drive flange machine its way through a caliper on Otterburn, and before that gears, diffs, oil pipe ...
Bob Grant and Pete Carstairs are the new N.E. England champions (but they are both from Fife so we won''t hold that against them), and they have number 2 on the doors of the Subaru. They finished just 9 seconds behind Rinty last year, and are eager to win the Kingdom for the first time. And their car has been reliable as well as quick.
Then we have Bruce Edwards starting third in the plastic fantastic Darrian Honda S2000, with Jim Smith on the notes and new bodywork to replace the blue mudflap and hundred pop-rivets that was holding the thing together by the end of Mull. Bruce has won a couple of rallies this year, appears to have the 2008 Hytorc Scottish Tarmack [sic] Championship all wrapped up, and might fancy improving on that 2nd place from about 10 years ago which was his best Kingdom result so far. Reliable? It''s a Honda; what could possibly go wrong?
And behnd them, there''s fleets of guys out to prove that it''s time for this bunch of old geezers to pull over and let the new generation past.
Last year 31 seconds covered the first 5 cars, and this year ... ?
You know you want to be there. Come on, pack the sunscreen and bikini and head for the Fife riviera, sign up to marshal, get out there close to the action and feel the noise. You get lunch from a pretty good burger van, goody bag, and the chance to win one of three rides through a stage in front running rally cars. And we''ll say thank you very much.
46 miles of fast flowing stages on the roads and runways of Crail Airfield in the Kingdom of Fife, on Saturday 1st November 2008, for £195.
